Horizon Realty Group’s two-year makeover of a 1966 Edgewater apartment building into the District @ Sheridan has culminated in the 80-unit property receiving its first move-ins. It’s located at 5536 N. Sheridan Rd. in the Bryn Mawr Historic District, across the street from the one-time site of the Edgewater Beach Hotel.

“We wanted to create a living space that was infused with a strong sense of hospitality—a boutique hotel feel,” said Horizon COO Jeffrey Michael. “We designed around people’s desire to spend more time in their community spaces.”

Horizon purchased the building in January 2017, and performed a full gut rehab at a cost of $5 million. The transformation is akin to what Horizon did a few blocks away at The Edge @ Sheridan, a 36-unit building that the company purchased in 2016. The gut rehab and rebuilding took 18 months, and the property is now fully leased.
