MLB Capital Partners began construction on the Houston Farmers Market redevelopment project. The local developer is making upgrades to the 17.7-acre, 77-year-old market, situated on Airline Drive on the east side of the Heights neighborhood.
Upgrades will include incorporating modern infrastructure, climate-controlled spaces, shaded open-air market areas, restroom and common seating areas. Also in the plans are more visible organized parking and traffic circulation, defined sidewalks, site landscaping and greenspaces. MLB, which acquired the property in 2017, will also add square footage, offering the space to merchants and restaurants. Award-winning chef Chris Shepherd will head development of the culinary concepts.
“As the country’s fourth largest city and leading culinary capital, Houston is long overdue for a world-class market,” said MLB’s Todd Mason. “We are thrilled to reinvigorate this local landmark into an experiential destination for both Houstonians and visitors to enjoy.”
