Gov. Andrew Cuomo said Saturday that New York City’s northern suburbs in the Mid-Hudson Valley were on track to begin reopening on Tuesday, and that Long Island might be able to follow suit the day after.

Subsequently, Cuomo said that New York professional sports leagues would be able to begin training camps in-state, while following appropriate health protocols.

“The numbers are going down every day and we’re making real progress to stop the spread of this virus, and now we’re focusing on reopening,” Cuomo said.

Phase one of New York State’s phased reopening program means a resumption of business activities in construction; manufacturing and wholesale supply chain; retail for curbside pickup and drop-off or in-store pickup; and agriculture, forestry and fishing.

As of Sunday, seven of the state’s 10 regions had met all seven metrics to begin phase one. However, New York City had met only four by that date.
