Illumina significantly expanded its manufacturing capabilities with this week’s opening of Building 6, a 295,000-square-foot facility at its Golden Triangle Campus in San Diego. The $40-million building was developed by Alexandria Real Estate Equities, and increases its UTC HQ campus to nearly 800,000 square feet.
The biotech company says the five-story building is key to its growth. The facility, which houses research, development, oncology, genetics and reproductive health operations, provides space and equipment needed to research and develop new products. It includes two-levels of underground parking, a high bay warehouse wing with covered shipping and receiving docks, and a manufacturing and office tower wing.
Illumina is the largest biotech company in San Diego County, regionally employing nearly 3,000. San Diego has provided $1.5 million in tax breaks to Illumina over a 10-year period.
