Inland Empire Remains in Growth Mode

Inland Empire manufacturers continue to be upbeat in the most recent survey by the Institute of Applied Research at Cal State San Bernardino. The latest Purchasing Managers’ Index stood at 62.7 for April, up from 56.8 in March.

Optimism is running strong about the state of the economy for the coming quarter, with 57% of purchasing managers forecasting a strengthening economy. The institute’s Barbara Sirotnik notes that’s the highest it has been since the inception of the report in 1993.

Positive areas noted in the survey include:

  • Production registered 65.9 in May, well up from April’s 58.0
  • New orders increased sharply to 67.1 in May, from April’s 60.0
  • May’s employment index was 59.8, up from 52 in April
