Instagram, the widely-touted photo sharing social media app, is enhancing its features to further serve e-commerce. Currently, influencers and brands that promote products need to share their links to buy in their bio, but starting next week, shoppable photos roll out on select iOS devices.
The app is partnering with 20 brands, including Kate Spade and Warby Parker, to begin rolling-out the feature that adds a new white icon in the bottom corner of a post. When a user clicks on the icon, the items in the photo that are available for purchase will pop up with their details, and a link driving to the retailers’ website for purchase.
Until Instagram has added additional features like “Save for later” and product recommendations, the service won’t fully roll out.
