L.A., Long Beach Ports Post Cargo Drop

The ports of Los Angeles and Long Beach both saw a drop in cargo shipments in June year over year. In June the Port of Los Angeles saw a two-percent drop in movement, while the Port of Long Beach experienced a 4.4-percent year-on-year drop.

In Los Angeles, imports fell by 3.7 percent, while exports dropped 10 percent. Long Beach saw a six-percent drop in imports, and exports sunk 8.4 percent.

The decrease in traffic is reportedly blamed on the high price of the dollar. Meanwhile, traffic at both ports has fallen for the first part of the year due to labor issues that back up traffic at the facilities.
