Ontario Airport is under local control as of 7 a.m. today. Ontario International Airport Authority assumed the operational reins from Los Angeles World Airports in a transfer agreement ironed out last year.
Local government and business leaders believe they can increase destinations, traffic and economic growth at the airport, as well as the surrounding Inland Empire region.
New Ontario International Airport Authority CEO Kelly Fredericks told us last month that his transition team was already working on ways to better serve the region, as well as 1,700 acres of airport land. That includes plans to redevelop 700 acres of land at the airport.
Development could create new jobs, as well as help generate revenue to offset landing fee costs, which in turn might encourage airlines to come back to the airport or expand existing operations there.
