Thermoplastics resins producer Braskem announced it would proceed with the largest polypropylene production (PP) line in the Americas. Philadelphia-headquartered Braskem will commit up to $675 million in investment capital toward the design and construction of the new facility, named Delta. The development will be next to the company’s existing production facilities on Strange Road in La Porte, TX.
Construction is anticipated to begin in mid-summer 2017, with completion scheduled Q1 2020. Delta’s infrastructure is already in place, including feedstock and utilities connectivity, rail infrastructure, central control room and testing facilities and emergency response equipment.
No new PP plants have been built in more than a decade, according to Baskem CEO Fernando Musa. “As such, our additional investment in the United States is a logical extension of our global growth strategy,” he said. “By increasing our production capacity in close proximity to customer demand, attractive feedstock as well as established export channels, we believe Delta will serve our clients.”
