Upland, CA-based Lewis Group of Cos. acquired 160 acres in Rancho Cucamonga, CA and plans to start developing the site by year end into a high-density, mixed-use community. The site has been operated as Empire Lakes Golf Course, which has suffered from neglect and a sagging Inland Empire economy in recent years.
Lewis Group’s Randall Lewis says the company’s intent is to create a use for the land that is in line with community needs. To meet a housing shortage, some 2,600 to 3,400 homes and apartments will be built.
Lewis also plans to create a community that appeals to a younger, millennial demographic. The developer envisions a project that incorporates 220,000 square feet of non-residential uses, such as retail, commercial services, recreation amenities and a community center.
