Loop Offices Will Become Dual-Branded Hilton

Leopardo recently began construction on a 238,000-square-foot, 15-story renovation and conversion at 226 W. Jackson St., across the street from Willis Tower. Formerly the headquarters of the Chicago and Northwestern Railroad and a National Historic Landmark dating back to 1904, the Loop building will become a dual-branded hotel with a 135-room Hilton Garden Inn, a 215-room Canopy by Hilton, and an independent rooftop restaurant/lounge.

The project entails a complete gut renovation and construction of 350 total rooms and suites, along with amenities and conference rooms on the first floor. The existing 15th floor will be modified with its roof removed entirely to build a new 16th-floor space with a restaurant/lounge.

Phoenix Development used crowdfunding through CrowdStreet to raise some of the capital for acquisition and redevelopment. With Phoenix and Leopardo working with construction management firm Daccord and Hartshore Plunkard Architecture, completion is expected for the second quarter of 2021.
