The Los Angeles Memorial Sports Arena, soon to be demolished, has staged an auction for every item, including lettering on the doors, the week before it gets bulldozed. The Exposition Park arena was designed by Welton Becket, and made its debut in 1959.
Historic legends have passed through its doors. From hosting the L.A. Lakers and Clippers, and the first professional hockey team to play in Los Angeles, the minor-league L.A. Blades, to being the site of Michael Jackson’s “Bad” Tour, and numerous Bruce Springsteen concerts, the venue’s demolition has been a topic of conversation for many years.
The future complex will become the site of a soccer stadium and museum.
