The Associated Builders and Contractors has put Louisiana atop its list of states with the best business environment for construction contractors. The state moved up one spot on the “Building America: The Merit Shop Scorecard” to take the #1 spot this year.
“Louisiana policymakers have built a free enterprise-based business environment that allows merit shop construction contractors to grow, while also protecting taxpayers from inflated costs,” said ABC’s John Walters in a statement. Walters went on to say that the state also prohibits anti-competitive labor agreements and inflated prevailing-wage mandates, while supporting right-to-work and workforce development initiatives. Such policies, Walters said, promote economic growth.
The scorecard ranks information specific to commercial and industrial construction industry success. States are graded on construction job growth rate, developing a well-trained job force, and use of private-public partnerships. Trailing Louisiana in the rankings are Virginia, North Carolina, Arizona, and Georgia.
