LyondellBasell Industries NV has announced it will build a $700 million polyethylene plant at its 540-acre La Porte, TX manufacturing complex. The facility will be located on the Houston Ship Channel’s south shore, and construction is anticipated to launch early next year.
The plant should be completed in 2019, and is expected to create up to 1,000 construction jobs and 75 permanent positions. The facility is anticipated to produce 1.1 billion pounds of polyethylene a year.
The plant is part of LyondellBasell’s $4 billion expansion plan for the Texas and Gulf Coast regions. The Netherlands-based company has also completed work on ethylene expansion projects in Channelview and La Porte, with another underway in Corpus Christi.
