Houston petrochemical company LyondellBasell is ready to move forward on a $2.4 billion plant near the Houston Ship Channel. The project, which would create approximately 2,500 construction jobs and 160 permanent jobs, will be the largest factory of its kind in the world.
The plant will manufacture propylene oxide, an ingredient used in bedding, carpeting, coatings, building materials and adhesives. As part of the project, LyondellBasell would also build a plant to refine tertiary butyl alcohol into fuel additives.
Construction on the project is scheduled for 2018, with completion scheduled for 2021.
LyondellBasell has begun its $700 million polyethylene plant in La Porte, TX. That plant is anticipated to come on line in 2019.
