Macerich’s $250M Broadway Plaza Redev Nears Completion

Santa Monica-based Macerich is nearing completion on its $250-million redevelopment of Broadway Plaza, a 1.1-million-square-foot luxury shopping center in Walnut Creek, CA. The REIT is adding 315,000 square feet of space as part of an initial phase of work, expected to be largely complete by the end of the summer at the 65-year-old property.

The design vision was to retain the retail center’s scale and distinctive appeal, while adding more than 51 new retailers, parking, finishes and updated outdoor amenities. Roughly 80,000 square feet of existing space, as well as two older, inefficient parking structures were demolished and replaced.

Macerich’s Shelly Dress says they “creatively made space” for new retailers and restaurants that appeal to the community, “while heightening the outdoor appeal and walkability that have always set Broadway Plaza apart.”
