The historic Macy’s Department Store is going to share its Art-Deco building on Brooklyn’s Fulton Avenue Mall with new office space.
Redevelopment will merge Macy’s nine-story, 1930s landmark with the four-story, cast-iron building next door. New construction will add new stories above.
When work finishes on the 10-story “Wheeler” building in mid-2019, a smaller Macy’s store will fill the first four floors. The upper floors will include 620,000 square feet of light-filled office space with Brooklyn’s largest floorplate, 16-foot ceilings and an acre of outdoor space across a series of gardened terraces.
“The Wheeler will celebrate its special location at the epicenter of Brooklyn and feed off the vitality of the iconic brownstone neighborhoods, open spaces, cultural venues and creative communities that surround it on all sides,” said Rob Speyer, CEO of Tishman Speyer.
