Magellan Relocates Pasadena HQ to Build $1B Telescope

The Giant Magellan Telescope Organization (GMTO) expanded into a 46,000-square-foot new HQ space in Pasadena, CA. The group is building the world’s largest land-based telescope in Chile.

The new location, at 465 N. Halstead St. in Pasadena, is a significant expansion from its previous 12,500-square-foot space on South Lake Ave. The organization also grew from 50 people at the old location, to a current team of 100 that is expected to rise to 150 over the next 12 to 18 months.

The new facility houses GMTO project engineers, designers, scientists and corporate departments. The $1-billion Giant Magellan Telescope is under construction and slated to be commissioned in 2021.
