The maritime business in the South Bay is looking up. Firms are seeing higher sales and hiring more workers due to the increase of the U.S. Navy’s focus on Asia.
One of those companies, defense contractor BAE Systems, is hiring about 500 people and building a new dry dock at a cost of $100 million.
For its part, the Navy plans to base 19 more ships at its base by 2020, increasing the workflow for industrial business around the area.
Meanwhile PASHA Automotive will receive about 5.5 million vehicles this year that will be shipped in.
This news obviously strengthens San Diego’s place as an industrial leader in the state.
