A vacant McAllen Toys R Us site is getting a second chance. Murdoch Capital LLC and Parkway Partners are joining forces to redevelop the 45,500-square-foot 4.5-acre site at 1101 Expressway 83, which is adjacent to La Plaza Mall. Though specific property plans haven’t been finalized, the partners say they are receiving positive preliminary feedback.
Jonas Fertitta, who heads up Murdoch Capital, told the Valley Business Report that he jumped at the chance to purchase the site. “McAllen has a strong reputation for high retail sales volume,” he said. Added Brian Kaplan with Parkway Partners in a release: “When you see . . . a vibrant retail market like McAllen, one where existing tenants are opening additional locations and new tenants are constantly entering the trade area, it’s really encouraging.”
The McAllen Toys R Us was shuttered following the toy retailer’s bankruptcy last year.
