Meal-kit company Plated is closing its Bronx fulfillment center and moving to a larger facility in New Jersey, Crain’s New York Business reported. The shift will move 98 jobs from the borough to Totowa, NJ, about 20 miles west of Midtown.
Albertsons Companies, Plated’s parent company, notified New York State’s Labor Department last week that it would close the Hunts Point warehouse, which was opened in 2015 to handle regional deliveries. The Bronx warehouse is scheduled to shut down in October.
An Albertsons spokeswoman told Crain’s the company custom-designed its new facility across the river to “optimize productivity and ensure for future innovation.” The company expects to hire 125 employees, representing an expansion of current staffing levels.
“We are encouraging [Bronx employees] to apply for positions in the Totowa fulfillment center, and will be working with them throughout this process to identify positions for as many as possible,” she said.
