Metra Commits to Upgrades at Station Serving Chicago State U.

Commuter rail operator Metra has agreed to renovate the 95th Street Station serving Chicago State University on the city’s Far Southeast Side by building a new full-service station along with a park-and-ride facility on CSU’s campus. The park-and-ride will contain a minimum of 119 parking spaces, and will be available to all commuters boarding at the 95th Street/CSU station.

“Renovation of the 95th Street/CSU train station is vital to the economic development of the community,” said CSU president Zaldwaynaka Scott. “Improving accessibility and security will attract businesses and provide multimodal transit options for our students; thus creating a transit-friendly environment.”

Plans for the station include a new platform, stair enclosure and entrance that includes a staircase, elevator and at least one on-demand heater. Metra plans to begin design work immediately.
