The San Jose Planning Commission approved Insight Realty Company’s proposed mixed-use development at 180 Park Ave. in downtown San Jose, which now goes to the city council for review and approval. The 24-story project envisioned for a 2.5-acre city-owned site will include retail, hotel, residential and museum space.
The existing 42,550-square-foot Parkside Hall will be demolished, and 25 parcels are being consolidated into three parcels. Parcel 1 will contain the proposed mixed-use project, including 19,000 square feet of ground floor retail, roughly 214,000 square feet of office, 60,000 square feet of museum space, 184 hotel rooms, and 306 residential units. The other parcels include the 60,000-square-foot Tech Museum, and the City National Civic Center.
The San Jose-based developer’s lead investor for the project is China New Era Group Corporation. Steinberg is the architect, while Kimpton will serve as the hotel development partner.
