A group led by Los Angeles-based Ocean West Capital Partners and Korea’s Hana Asset Management Co., LTD acquired NASA’s headquarters in Washington D.C., from Piedmont Office Realty Trust for $360 million. Constructed in 1992, the nine-story, 606,000-square-foot Two Independence Square property is located at 300 E Street, SW, three blocks off the National Mall in the Southwest submarket.
NASA, which occupies 99% of the building, renewed its lease at the property in 2011, which runs through 2028. The building houses NASA leadership who provide overall guidance and direction to the U.S. government.
The building includes the James E. Webb Memorial Auditorium, which hosts agency news conferences and social events. Also housed in the building are a lending library, history office and archives along with production facilities for NASA TV.
Cushman & Wakefield’s Eric Berkman, Drew Flood and Paul Collins handled the transaction.
