Gov. JB Pritzker hasn’t yet signed SB 690, the bill that legalizes sports betting in Illinois and paves the way for more casinos to open here, including one in Chicago. However, there are plans for changes to the Illinois Gaming Board to make the board more “pro-gaming,” according to state Sen. Terry Link.
“You’re going to see changes rapidly,” Link told the Chicago Sun-Times. The Vernon Hills Democrat had worked for years to expanding gaming in the state.
With one vacancy, the Gaming Board is likely to grow to five members, the Sun-Times reported. And Pritzker is expected to name a new executive director next month.
In addition to a privately-operated casino in Chicago, SB 690 will also authorize new casinos in Waukegan, Chicago’s south suburbs, Williamson County in southern Illinois, Rockford in northern Illinois and Danville in the state’s east-central region.
