There will soon be a new boss at 100 Gold St., headquarters of the New York City Department of Housing Preservation and Development.
On February 6, Maria Torres-Springer will become the new Commissioner at HPD, the city agency responsible for much of the City’s housing policy. Torres-Springer comes to the agency fresh from heading the City’s Economic Development Corp.
Vicki Been, the current Housing Commissioner, is returning to New York University, where she directs the Furman Center and is the Boxer Family Professor of Law. The City announced last week that under Been’s leadership, the administration was securing affordable housing at a rate not seen since the Koch Administration in 1989.
