New York’s 80-story 3 World Trade Center Set to Open

New York’s 3 World Trade Center is set to open today with a ceremonial ribbon-cutting by developer Silverstein Properties. The $2.7-billion, 80-story office building rises 1,079 feet, and is the third tower on the site where the twin towers stood.

Designed by Pritzker Prize-winning architects Rogers Stirk Harbor + Partners, the 2.5-million-square-foot tower is New York City’s fifth tallest building. Located at 175 Greenwich St., it sits atop a 17-story podium on land owned by Port Authority of New York & New Jersey. The 40%-leased tower’s tenants signed on include GroupM (700,000 square feet) and McKinsey & Co. (185,000 square feet).

The Port Authority’s executive director, Rick Cotton, told AP the opening of 3 World Trade is “really a major transformative step in the ongoing evolution of the World Trade Center from a construction site to an active, living, breathing campus of office buildings and a memorial.”
