Next Generation Honoree: For Rich Velotta, CRE’s an Information Business

Rich Velotta is a managing director at Meridian Investment Sales, and has closed approximately $500 million in aggregate value of transactions. Although early in his career at age 28, he recently brokered the $100-million sale of a 28-building portfolio throughout Brooklyn and Manhattan, an assignment that had stymied many other brokers due to the numbers of both the properties themselves and the moving parts in the deal. Along with a grasp of the complexities in solidifying a transaction of that magnitude, Velotta showed poise, leadership and the ability to keep all sides focused on the common goal.

That’s just one of the reasons we chose Velotta to be one of the New York 2018 Next Generation Award winners. Connect Media’s second annual Next Generation Awards recognize young leaders in the commercial real estate industry who are likely to be influential for years to come.

Velotta also displays an understanding of how people think and act that belies his years. A key talking point for him is that real estate is an information business. He focuses on being a thoughtful participant in the real estate market and an advisor to the people he transacts with, instead of simply acting as a middle man. It’s a long-term strategy, but it proves he can add value to a transaction while opening up opportunities that may elude other brokers.
