Cedar Park Regional Medical Center officially opened its new Joint & Spine Center, with the new wing accepting patients beginning Aug. 7, 2017. The $6 million center at 1401 Medical Pkwy. in Cedar Park, north of Austin, has 15 beds dedicated to orthopedic cases, and is the first to open on CPRMC’s fourth floor. The floor has room for two more wings.
The new center was deemed necessary because spine and orthopedic surgeries are considered elective. As a result, orthopedic surgeries were sometimes bumped off the schedule by emergency surgeries. Separating joint and spine surgery into a separate unit means the CPRMC has better control over the operation schedules, and can offer more specialized orthopedic care.
“This will distinguish us from every other hospital in the [Austin] community, and I operate in 13 of them,” orthopedic surgeon Scott Smith told Community Impact. “There’s no other orthopedic wing in any other hospital that’s strictly for joint and spine.”
