The Port Authority of New York and New Jersey said its airports, seaport, PATH trains and Goethals Bridge traffic reported record activity levels in May, including new records for the first five months of the year at the airports and port. The port’s five-month tally for cargo pushed it ahead of the second-ranked Port of Long Beach for the first time in two decades, while the one-month total for May also set a new record.
Similarly, the region’s four airports—John F. Kennedy International, Newark Liberty International, LaGuardia and New York Stewart International airports—broke records for both the year’s first five months and the month of May. May’s passenger volume of 12.79 million passengers was up 3% year over year.
May traffic over the Goethals Bridge surpassed the previous May high set in 2002. On PATH, year-to-date average daily ridership stands at 281,649 passengers, a record high.
