Office Depot CEO Smith to Retire, Executive Reorg Taking Place

Roland Smith, chief executive officer with Office Depot, will retire next year. Smith, who is leaving in accordance with the company’s three-year strategic plan, will remain at the helm until a successor is named by the end of March. He is expected to retain his position as chairman of the board.

As part of its plan, Office Depot is consolidating retail, contract ecommerce and marketing operations. These functions will report to Troy Rice, who is taking on the new position of Chief Operating Officer, North America. Additionally, Rob Koch has been promoted to the position of Executive Vice President, Business Development, and Steve Calkins is now Executive Vice President and Chief Legal Officer.
