Office Designs: A Little Bit of Everything

The open floor plan of offices was supposed to drive collaboration. However, the backlash against less space and the one-size-fits-all mentality is bringing up the next trend in office design: Mainly a “palette of places.”

These palettes still allow for open plans, along with standing tables, moveable walls, team spaces, couches – and privacy. Some of the new office spaces also offer “isolation rooms,” phone booths that are soundproofed and even no-technology lounges.

Interestingly, it’s not the usual corporate suspects – the Apples or the Googles – that are behind this trend. Rather, the typically staider companies are taking the lead. Microsoft, IBM and General Electric are spending good money on the ideal office space, which is actually, a diversity of office space.
