OKIN Walks Away from State, Municipal Incentives

In October 2018, it was announced that OKIN Business Process Services would develop its U.S. headquarters at the Brooks mixed-use development, in southern San Antonio. Also announced were several incentive deals offered by the state of Texas, along with the city of San Antonio and Bexar County. But the company, headquartered in the Czech Republic, opted to pass on all incentives, meaning it won’t be required to meet certain job-creation thresholds.

When the deal was first announced, OKIN was originally expected to employ approximately 1,400 workers. Now, it’s not clear what the company’s long-term plan is for San Antonio, though a spokesperson for the company told the San Antonio Business Journal it “plans to hire several hundred San Antonians in the next few years.”

To date, OKIN has opened, and currently occupies, the first of two buildings at Brooks. The second building is anticipated to be ready for move-in by the end of the year.
