Ottawa University will open a 35-acre campus in fall 2017, consisting of residential halls and varsity men’s and women’s sports teams. The campus, with its $20 million price tag, is going north in Surprise, AZ. Plans call for the university campus to open with 250 students, with a goal of 3,000 students by 2027.
The new school will be next to Surprise City Hall at 16000 Civic Center Plaza, and the Surprise Recreational Complex. The complex will be used by the university’s athletics department; the department will work toward a National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics designation.
Ottawa University has been in the Phoenix area since the late 1970s as a commuter school with campuses in Phoenix and Queen Creek. It has also been serving the Surprise community as part of the Communiversity of Surprise, a partnership of colleges and universities. The main campus is in Ottawa, KS.
