Partnership Seeks Port KC Incentives to Revamp Office Tower

A partnership redeveloping City Center Square in downtown Kansas City, MO has gotten a first round of approvals on incentives from the Port Authority of Kansas City to update the property, the Kansas City Business Journal reported. Somera Road and JE Dunn Construction plan to rebrand the 30-story office tower as the Lightwell Building.

At the authority’s recent meeting, Port KC CEO Jon Stephens said incentives were necessary because the project addresses two problems: it brings more Class A office space into the market, and the improvements will gradually help raise downtown lease rates.

“Kansas City is going through a downtown renaissance; it already has the food, nightlife, retail, entertainment, multifamily and hotels to support the growth,” Somera Road’s Basel Bataineh told the Business Journal. “The only thing missing is a modern, forward-thinking office space to attract new economy jobs. That’s the gap we’re looking to fill.”
