Penn Station Will Get New Entrance, Expanded LIRR Corridor

New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo unveiled plans for a new Penn Station entrance at 33rd Street and Seventh Avenue that will have direct access to the Long Island Rail Road Main Concourse, and the six subway lines serving the nation’s busiest passenger terminal. The concourse itself will be widened from 30 to 57 feet.

Simultaneously, Cuomo announced progress in the completion of Moynihan Train Hall, the repurposing of Farley Post Office across the street from Penn Station. When it opens in 2020, the train hall will serve LIRR and Amtrak passengers via nine platforms and 17 tracks.

“For years, there has been talk about transforming Penn Station, but no action,” said Cuomo. “The projects currently underway, including a new, state-of-the-art entrance, will not only turn Penn Station into a world-class transit hub, but they will ease the flow for riders and improve the overall passenger experience for all who pass through.”
