Work is now underway to create one of the largest standalone murals in the city of Chicago. Set for completion in mid-September, the mural will adorn the eastern street-level facade of Porte, a new two-tower rental community at 855 W. Madison St. in the West Loop.
Developed by Lendlease Development, The John Buck Company and partner Intercontinental Real Estate Corporation, Porte commissioned the overlapping composition from B_Line Projects, the city’s largest curator of public art murals, to celebrate the neighborhood’s history, culture and diversity.
Created by artists Shawn Michael Warren, Jane Barthes, Anna Murphy and Kalan Strauss, the hybrid mural will bring each artist’s interpretation of the West Loop to life and pay homage to the woman who arguably put the neighborhood on the map: Oprah Winfrey. Once completed, the piece will span the entirety of Green Street from Madison to Monroe streets.
