Dallas-based Luminant, a former subsidiary of Energy Future Holdings Corp., is shopping around 1,833 acres that once had a power plant, in hopes of finding a ranch-interested buyer. The acreage, known as Lake Creek Ranch, is near Waco, and carries a $15-million price tag.
The property is on the Lake Creek Reservoir in McLennon County, approximately 110 miles north of Austin. The reservoir was never stocked with fish, but according to Luminant, it contains large-mouth bass, catfish, and bluegill.
The 1950s power plant in question had been in play for decades, with Luminant retiring it in 2009. Luminant imploded it in 2015. The original plan was to bring on a newer generation of power-generating devices, but a company spokesperson told the Austin Business Journal that there could be a better use for it. The land is listed with Hortenstine Ranch Co., based in Dallas.
