Chicago’s Riverwalk returned to normal operating hours on Friday, opening for both recreation and business from 6 a.m. to 11 p.m. Vendors will also be allowed to stay open until 11 p.m., and vendors that haven’t yet reopened will continue coming back in the next few weeks.
“This comes after the city has been closely monitoring the amount of people using the Riverwalk each day and its current projections for use throughout the summer and determined that it was feasible for these simultaneous operations,” according to a release from the mayor’s office.
The 1.25-mile Riverwalk partially reopened on June 12, with limited access and shorter operating hours. Mayor Lori Lightfoot shut down the Riverwalk, along with the lakefront and 606 trails, in late March to help contain the spread of the coronavirus.
