Airbnb and RXR Realty will convert 10 floors of RXR’s 75 Rockefeller Plaza to high-end apartment-style suites. The owner-developer and the home-sharing platform say their partnership will create “a new category of urban lodging.”
Listings for the 75 Rockefeller suites will be available exclusively through Airbnb. The two companies are in talks to collaborate at other RXR properties, notably the 10-building 47 Hall St. development across from the Brooklyn Navy Yard.
“With the lines between business travel and leisure travel becoming increasingly blurred, RXR and Airbnb are offering a travel experience that immerses guests in a dynamic, thriving community in the heart of Rockefeller Center that’s vastly different than anything else in the market today,” said RXR chairman and CEO Scott Rechler.
Separately, Marriott International is reportedly poised to offer competition to Airbnb. The world’s largest hotel company is planning to roll out a rental service called Homes & Villas.
