San Antonio’s (Potential) Airport Solution

The San Antonio International Airport is “international”, flying non-stop to Canada and Mexico. The problem, however, is that those are the only two countries with non-stop flights. Additionally, the airport has a shortage of non-stop flights to major U.S. business centers, which is hurting when it comes to attracting business. The airport was one reason why Toyota decided to put its North American headquarters in Plano, TX, rather than in San Antonio, where it already has a plant on the south side.

Mayor Ron Nirenberg wants to stop that. He has appointed John Dickson of the Denim Group to head a panel to study, and make recommendations, on the city’s airport needs over the next 50 years. The panel will collect data to determine whether operations should be expanded at the airport’s current location, or if a new airport should be built.
