Occupancy at the San Diego Convention Center was at 68 percent during its fiscal year, which ended June 30. This is the best the facility has performed since 2008.
The San Diego Convention Center’s numbers far exceeded the national convention-center occupancy average, which was at 44 percent, and it’s the third year in a row that the facility has seen numbers increase.
The 172 events hosted by the convention center during its fiscal year generated the use of 691,000 hotel rooms, and had an overall economic impact of more than $1 billion, according to a report by the San Diego Convention Center Corp. and San Diego Tourism Authority. Comic-Con International was the top money-generating convention, bringing in $136 million, followed by Cisco Live, at $70.3 million.
