In response to rapid expansion, the city of Seguin, northeast of San Antonio, approved a new Master Thoroughfare Plan. The city council unanimously approved the plan, which effectively upgrades the previous one, which was part of a comprehensive plan from 2008.
The growing downtown area, along with the city’s extra territorial jurisdiction, made a new plan necessary said Seguin’s Assistant Director of Planning and Codes John Foreman. He pointed out that the previous plan had “roads going through constrained areas like railroads, flood plains, property lines and existing developments.”
The plan pulls together considerations for Seguin’s town center, along with residential and commercial/industrial corridor priority considerations. The plan took approximately one year to put together, and had input from the city council, Planning and Zoning Commission the Historic Design Review, and Long-Range Planning Committee, among other groups.
