Shake Shack on Tuesday announced aggressive plans for expansion during 2021, rolling out twice as many company-owned locations this year compared to 2020. The New York-based restaurant chain revealed the plans while discussing fourth-quarter results, which improved on previous quarters.
“We are targeting an acceleration of new Shack development and expect to open a total of 35 to 40 domestic company-operated Shacks in 2021, with timing more towards the back half of the year due to COVID-related volatility,” said CEO Randy Garutti.
The company also plans to open 15 to 20 new franchised locations internationally this year. During 2020, Shake Shack opened a total of 20 company-owned stores.
“We also plan to build our first drive-thru Shack later in 2021,” Garutti said. “Our evolving designs focus on enhancement of the guest experience by implementing friction-reduced order and pickup areas across all formats.”
The company recently launched curbside pickup.
