The supermarket industry is not an easy place to be, with its low margins and severe competition. However, Stater Bros., seems to rule the Inland Empire’s supermarket sector.
Fresh & Easy, which was owned by U.K.-based Tesco, and is now operated by Yucaipa Cos., had its second bankruptcy filing in two years, showing how tough the supermarket industry can be in the region.
Other top performers in the region’s grocery sector include Walmart, Target and Trader Joe’s.
It’s a very tough part of the retail commercial real estate sector right now, but Stater Bros. has weathered the storm in ways a regional grocer can’t normally handle.
