Sterling Bay Takes “First Step” with Interim Park at Lincoln Yards

Although only a small piece of the mega-project to come, the first component of Lincoln Yards is set to open later this month. Sterling Bay said a one-acre park known as Fleet Fields, located near the southern end of the development, was slated to open on July 28.

One artificial-turf soccer field and two smaller multi-purpose sports fields are nearing completion. They’ll be open to the public from 8 a.m. to 11 p.m. daily.

The interim sports fields are well ahead of schedule, after Sterling Bay promised they’d open by the end of 2020. The developer agreed to create the interim fields until larger parks are created during upcoming phases of construction.

“Fleet Fields is our first step in bringing life back to the corridor and delivering vibrant, well-maintained, publicly accessible recreational green space to the city of Chicago,” said Sterling Bay CEO Andy Gloor.
