idX Corp., which develops components for retail store environments, announced it would invest $7.2 million to establish manufacturing operations in Spotsylvania County, Virginia. The Earth City, MO-based company will take over the former General Motors Fredericksburg Powertrain facility from the RACER Trust. RACER Trust was established to create redevelopment opportunities for former General Motors sites.
The 77-acre site on Tidewater Trail in Fredericksburg, VA, includes 300,000 square feet of industrial space. The plant has been vacant since GM shut it down in 2010.
“This investment in Spotsylvania County will help idX strengthen our East Coast manufacturing and distribution network and position us for continued growth and success,” said Terry Schultz, CEO of idX.
Virginia Gov. Terry McAuliffe approved a $400,000 grant from the Commonwealth’s Opportunity Fund to assist Spotsylvania County with the project. Funding and services to support the company’s employee training activities will be provided through the Virginia Jobs Investment Program.
