SunCal Proposes Twin 58-Story Towers in DTLA Arts District

Irvine, CA-based SunCal proposed developing twin, 58-story towers as part of a massive live/work project in DTLA’s Arts District called 6AM. The developer envisions 1,736 residential units, two hotels, retail and creative office space, as well as a school.

The 14.5-acre site at 6th and Alameda, which currently contains two warehouses, was acquired by SunCal last year for $130 million.

Roughly 430 of the residences are slated as condos, with the balance planned as apartments. The developer is setting aside 23,000 square feet for art space and two urban parks.

Formal plans have yet to be filed, though the mixed-use project will need a zoning change and a general plan amendment.

The architect for 6AM is Basel, Switzerland-based Herzog & de Meuron.
