Irvine, CA-based Taco Bell revealed an expansion strategy this week designed to grow from $10 billion in annual sales today to $15 billion by 2022. Plans include adding restaurants domestically, as well as in four key international markets.
The growth vision includes boosting the total number of restaurants it operates globally to 9,000 in the next five years, up from 6,650 restaurants in 23 countries today. The company says that growth would result in 100,000 new jobs in the U.S. alone.
Taco Bell’s international focus includes Brazil, Canada, China and India, where at least 100 restaurants are being added in each market.
The fast-food restaurant continues to roll out the four new restaurant design concepts introduced last year that better reflect local communities. The strategy also includes urban inline stores, called Taco Bell Cantina, typically in high pedestrian urban areas that can’t accommodate a drive thru.
