A wholesale beverage distributor interested in taking over the old post office in Owentown, TX, now has more incentive to do so. Smith County commissioners have approved a tax abatement package to get GG Distributing in the facility and creating up to 185 jobs in the next five years.
The approved package is a five-year, 80% abatement on the $15 million project. It’s estimated to generate 160 new jobs. However, if the company creates up to 185 jobs, the abatement can be extended.
The new distribution center near Farm-to-Market Road 3311 and Interstate 20 is scheduled to open in early 2018. As the opening comes closer, the company will hire salespeople, delivery drivers, merchandisers and warehouse workers.
